Members of the Parker League, the renowned volunteer auxiliary of the Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation, along with student volunteers, marked Tu B'Shevat on January 15, by preparing and delivering baskets of fresh and dried fruit to Parker's residents and patients. Tu B'Shevat, the day in Jewish culture and history that marks the beginning of a "New Year for Trees," is also considered by many to be similar to Arbor Day, and some ecological organizations have adopted it to further environmental awareness programs.
The Parker League is an auxiliary that engages in a wide range of exciting activities aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Parker's diverse population of patients and residents. New members are always welcome to assist in fundraising, education, social activities and advocacy. The sparkling lobby gift shop operated by the League for the benefit of Parker, as well as many other creative activities, provides satisfaction and challenge to an increasing number of caring individuals. Those interested in joining the Parker League are invited to call 718-289-2292.
