Research relevant to geriatric health care lags behind that of every age and population group. Parker is helping to fill this void and herald a more progressive era of geriatric medical knowledge and treatment. Its Nerken Center for Research is currently conducting clinical and health service studies related to Alzheimer’s disease and associated dementia, anemia, depression, flu, osteoporosis and palliative care.

The Nerken Center for Research also organizes seminars, lectures and other events designed to educate community residents, pharmaceutical companies and Parker employees. The Center’s staff helps identify the key needs and concerns of older adult patients under medical and rehabilitative care.

Teaching has always been a priority at Parker. The first institution of its kind to offer a Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine, Parker is among the national leaders in geriatric medical education. Parker is a teaching affiliate of Albert Einstein College of Medicine as well as the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. Parker Fellows have the unique opportunity to work with older adult patients in a variety of settings through the Institute’s network of inpatient, outpatient and home care programs.
