Parker Jewish Institute is proud to celebrate Dr. June Magee, DNP, RN, NE, RAC-CT, who has been recognized as one of the 2025 Power Women of Long Island—an honor awarded to influential leaders shaping the future of our region. The award highlights women who drive positive change through service, innovation, and dedication to their communities. Dr. Magee embodies all of these qualities and more.
A Legacy Rooted in Strength and Service
Dr. Magee’s journey in nursing was shaped by the trailblazing legacy of her mother, Mazie Weeks, the first African American graduate of what is now Northwell Health Glen Cove Hospital’s nursing program in 1950. Inspired by a woman who broke barriers, Dr. Magee followed in her mother’s footsteps and built are markable career grounded in service, education and leadership.
Her commitment to helping others began early. After high school, she enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Registered Emergency Medical Technician (REMT), serving with the M.E.D.A.C. unit at Fort Sam Houston. There, she developed strong clinical and leadership skills that shaped her future in healthcare. Her experience in the military strengthened her belief in teamwork, resilience, and providing care with purpose—values she carried into every chapter of her career.
Rising Through Nursing With Compassion and Determination
After transitioning to civilian life, Dr. Magee began as a certified nurse’s assistant and quickly rose through the ranks. Recognizing her natural ability to nurture and lead, she pursued her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification and later completed her Associate Degree in Nursing while working a full-time 7AM–3PM shift.
Her career continued to progress when she joined St. Joseph Hospital’s surgical/GYN unit, where she became known for her attentiveness, skill and compassion for patients and their families.
In time, Dr. Magee began to envision a greater impact—not just on patients, but on the nursing profession as a whole.
A Passion for Leadership and Teaching
After joining Parker Jewish Institute, Dr. Magee continued her education while working full-time, eventually earning both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Nursing, followed by her Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP).
Today, Dr. Magee serves as Director of Long Term Care and Nursing Education, where she shapes the next generation of nurses with a leadership philosophy grounded in empathy, professionalism and excellence. She is passionate about breaking down barriers, elevating standards of care and empowering nurses to lead.
Serving the post-acute care community has been, in her words, “an honor and a privilege.”
