The Parker Jewish Institute to Host ‘Shielding Seniors’ Workshop on Preventing Scams and Identity Theft

The Parker Jewish Institute is hosting an educational program, “Shielding Seniors: Protect Yourself from Scams and Identity Theft,” on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. Older adults and their families will gain information about recognizing fraud and protecting their personal information. Registration will take place on the day of the event from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., followed by the presentation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Parker Auditorium. Light refreshments will be served.

Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, using phone calls, emails, text messages and fake websites to steal personal information, financial account details and identities. Older adults are often targeted through schemes that create a false sense of urgency or appear to come from trusted organizations, including banks, Medicare or Social Security.

Participants will learn:

• How to recognize common scams targeting older adults

• Ways to protect personal and financial information

• Warning signs of identity theft

• What to do if you suspect you’ve been targeted

• Resources available to report fraud and receive assistance

At Parker’s “Shielding Seniors” workshop, participants will explore strategies to help protect themselves from fraud and identity theft and stay informed about evolving scams.
