The Parker Jewish Institute Teaches Residents the Art of 3D Photography
Monday, September 22, 2025

Andrew Lauren, an active volunteer at the Parker Jewish Institute, successfully jumpstarted a learning series that examines the standalone art style of 3D Photography. This unique style of art was created in 1838, after Sir Charles Wheatstone’s invention of the stereoscope, and has gone through cycles of popularity.
In each session, Andrew gives residents a detailed overview of the artform, and the devices used to create the illusion of depth and dimensions by synthesizing offset images that mimic how human eyes perceive depth. Residents are given 3D photographs, which they view through various devices such as the stereo card viewers and anaglyph glasses. Residents are becoming scholars of this intricate art, which has a long-standing history, that most do not know about.
