Beating the Heat in Style: Parker Jewish Institute Offers Cool Comfort and Engaging Entertainment
Monday, June 30, 2025

New York faced its first major heatwave of the summer on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, with temperatures soaring to 102 degrees in parts of Queens. As always, Parker Jewish Institute was ready to handle the heat. Our Facilities Department kept Parker cool, comfortable and outage-free. And our Therapeutic Recreation Department brought the summer spirit indoors with engaging, heatwave-friendly activities.
Among the many enjoyable indoor activities, Parker’s popular “Drive-In Movies” event offered a fun and nostalgic escape. In the comfort of our air-conditioned facility, residents and patients gathered to watch two crowd-pleasing films: Netflix’s 2025 comedy-drama Nonnas and the beloved 1996 family classic Matilda. Watching films together enhances the movie-going experience, as audience members laugh, reflect, and enjoy compelling stories as a community. Both Nonnas and Matilda carried a touching reminder of earlier times, featuring iconic actors (some with careers stretching back to the 1960s) and storylines that explore cultural themes still relevant today.
