Celebrating Women’s History Month, residents and patients at the Parker Jewish Institute enjoyed an engaging lecture on Thursday, March 5, 2026, on women who shaped history. Part of Parker’s new Silver Scholar Series, this multimedia lecture explored trailblazers whose efforts helped make the world a better place. Among those featured Thursday were actress Hedy Lamarr, the inventor of a secret communication system during World War II; Marie Van Brittan Brown, the inventor of the home security system; Dr. Patricia Bath, the inventor of the Laserphaco Probe; Rosalind Franklin, a leader in the discovery of DNA; and Grace Hooper, an early pioneer in computer programming.
