A Garden Refresh at the Parker Jewish Institute
Monday, May 4, 2026

With spring in full bloom, patients and residents at the Parker Jewish Institute gathered on the seventh floor on Thursday, April 30, 2026, to refresh elevated planter boxes with new herbs and flowers for the season. They tilled the soil, removed old plant roots and added fresh earth before carefully selecting the plants they will nurture throughout the year. Each plant offers specific health benefits, sparking fun conversations and lively debate. For many participants, planting stirred memories of gardens they had tended in years past. One resident recalled picking basil in her childhood garden for her mother’s homemade sauce. Another recalled the joy and relaxation she felt in her home garden, which she said was so beautiful, it became the envy of the block. This year’s garden refresh was a wonderful success. We can’t wait to see the garden – and its dedicated caretakers – flourish in the months ahead.
