The Parker Jewish Institute’s Indian Cultural Unit hosted its Ram Navami celebration on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. A Hindu festival, Ram Navami celebrates the birth of Rama, believed to be the seventh incarnation (avatar) of the deity Vishnu. The celebration featured musical and dance performances, as well as tasty treats, including fresh mango lassi and coconut ladoo.
Parker’s celebration took place nearly a year since the passing of Dr. Saroj Shah, the founder of the Parker Jewish Institute’s Indian Cultural Committee. The event was attended by Dr. Shah’s husband, Dr. Indravadan C. Shah, and daughter, Dr. Shefali Shah. Dr. Shefali Shah reflected on Dr. Saroj Shah’s remarkable contributions. Parker’s Indian Cultural Unit continues to thrive – a powerful testament to the eternal legacy of Dr. Saroj Shah, whose wisdom, insight and remarkable compassion continue to touch the lives of countless families. The Parker Jewish Institute will forever be grateful of Dr. Saroj Shah’s charity and leadership.
