Parker's Book Club

Parker’s Therapeutic Recreational Department recently began an interactive book club, for the residents. Currently, the club is reading the 1988 globally praised Brazilian novel, "The Alchemist," by Paulo Coelho. The story follows the travels of an Andalusian shepherd boy, Santiago, who searches for treasure at the Egyptian pyramids.

The book is read aloud by Parker’s Director of Therapeutic Recreation Mary Kate Tusinski. Residents are encouraged to read along. The book’s themes spark many discussions, including the topic of finding one’s destiny. On many occasions, residents share their insights and personal connections to the story’s themes, based on their own life experience.
